Alwan DynamicPrinterCalibration bridged the gap between G7 and ISO 12647

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Press release from the issuing company
Alwan Color Expertise, a worldwide leader in color management and standardization software has achieved G7 System Certification by IDEAlliance. The new technology embedded in Alwan PRINT Standardizer will allow printers for the first time to print to ISO 12647 while calibrating their press to the G7 grayscale standard.

Since the launch of G7 grayscale calibration in 2005, printers have been divided into two categories: those mainly in Europe printing to ISO 12647 standard, and those mainly in North America printing to G7 grayscale. For the first time today, printers do not have to choose anymore between ISO 12647 and G7 conformance. Thanks to industry first Alwan DynamicPrinterCalibration, printers can conform to ISO 12647 standards requirements while benefiting from adopting the G7 calibration methodology, recognizing neutral grays and shared appearance across multiple processes.

Elie Khoury, founder and president of Alwan Color Expertise is very excited about this new development: "Since 1997, Alwan is helping the graphic industry and printers specifically to work to standards. Unfortunately, in many situations, printing to ISO standards did not guarantee proof to press, press to press, or substrate to substrate match. We knew that G7 calibration could help improve near neutral color reproduction and the appearance of prints across processes, but G7 method was not recognized enough in some parts of the world, and required that printers abandon the efforts they had made to conform to ISO 12647. Today, these two obstacles are overcome, thanks to the international recognition that G7 calibration has gained since and to Alwan PRINT Standardizer, Printers can now  enjoy G7 calibration benefits while conforming to ISO 12647."

Joe Fazzi, Vice President of Media Production Technologies with IDEAlliance concludes: "The G7 System Certification Program is designed to evaluate the ability of a candidate system to calibrate a printing device to meet the G7 grayscale definition. We are gratified to see a market leader in ISO 12647 standardization like Alwan Color Expertise has recognized the benefits of G7 grayscale calibration in standardized analog and digital print environments. Through its availability to users worldwide, we look forward to a wider adoption of printing standards by printers who do not have to choose anymore between two standards, but who can benefit from both."

All spot colour are controlled digitally with pressSIGN so the operator can adjust the density to get the closest possible colour match (Delta E)

Soft proofing includedNew image pressSIGN-Pro and Trends include soft proofing for both the press operator and the production office. Check the impact of paper colour. Use when there is no verified proof. Simulate the effect of updating the plate curve and much more. Read More
Hit the lowest Delta E fastNew image pressSIGN's Dynamic Density (DDA) ensures that whatever the print condition pressSIGN shows the operator how to adjust the ink keys to achieve the lowest possible delta e. New features include OK sheet to measure consistency of the whole job and choice of viewing view according to Lab or DensityRead More

Auto Adjust for paper color
When a print target requires a paper colour that isn't available printing within tolerances becomes impossible. pressSIGN gives the option of automatically adjusting the target to compensate for the paper in use. This method makes for a better visual match between proof and print.
